In response to Evelyn's comments, I would like to post what I do know about the BPHS Alumni.  There is an alumni, a non-profit organization, associated with the CAL-ROD car club and posted on their web site.  For more information regarding the BPHS Alumni, please click on  www.baldwinparkhighschool.com and/or http://calrods.com/   Click on "Coming Events" and scroll down the page.

Aloha, This posting is written in response to the e mail from our
"self-excommunicated" classmate.
I had just arrived in the United States from the Philippines when I attended Baldwin Park High School. The education I received enabled me to attend nursing school, specializing in anesthesia which enabled me to make a good living. I was able to send my only child through USC Medical School. Baldwin Park High School was a good school.
Five more of my siblings also followed me in graduation and all have done well with their lives.
However, our "self-excommunicated" classmate makes a good point.
While we all speak highly of the good education we received at BPHS, we have not instituted any programs to help the BPHS student of today. I for one am willing to contribute to a program that will offer scholarships, donations, etc. to BPHS in the name of the BPHS, Class of 1956.

We are doing better now that I have Sandy back home and  feeling better with each day.  Last week she had trouble breathing at her doctors and she was taken into Vegas where they did an angioplasty.  The artery had two restrictions close together.  They put a stint in increasing the blood to heart.

I feel I got a great education at BPHS. The teachers were great and I went on to college and became a school teacher for 30 years. I always loved learning and I think BPHS provided me with an education that has lasted a lifetime.

My husband went to BPHS too.  He owns a successful business and has done quite well.

Right on, Marilyn!  Two wonderful teachers attended our reunion and really enjoyed themselves.  They remembered our class with respect and they remembered so many classmates, especially the guys that played sports.

We experienced a great middle American, mid century education.  We were teenagers in the magnificent fifties.  What a historical experience!  I'm proud to have graduated from BPHS!  How about the rest of you?

I have no idea what school some went to but it couldn't have been BPHS.  That was absolutely the best years of my life and I don't think I turned out too dumb.  Sure we had fun which is more than I can say for the kids nowadays.  No drugs, no wars, not too much peer pressure, just a few beers thrown in now and then.  Of course being in the car club made it even more special.

I never heard anything about a crime against a teacher, EVER.  I don't think we even realized what crime was in that day and age.  We had wonderful clean fun and anyone who wanted to graduate and go on to bigger and better things certainly had every opportunity because we had to learn reading, writing and arithmetic.  Also we had respect for our teachers (most of them).  How many class reunions in this day and age have teachers attend?  Not too many I would venture to say.

I, for one, am truly grateful for all of your endeavors on our behalf.  Please, all of you,  keep up the good work.  It is sooo much fun being able to contact our classmates.  It has helped me immensely to feel connected through my healing process.  Connie Eves and I have made contact and will be getting together soon.  Just had to write a note to let you all know that you deserve ((((((((HUGS)))))))).

Norma Caylor (Petterson) contacted Irene Hernandez learning that her husband, Sal Villa, passed away two weeks ago.  Those of us attending the 2002 reunion remember Sal.  I had the pleasure of talking with him at the BBQ and remember thinking what a nice person he is.  Irene does not have a computer.  Please, send your condolences to:  626-962-3093 13302 Coreck St.  BP 91706

Recently, those of us on the web Communication Ring have had an opportunity to look back on our high school  and high school years and question whether we had an education that helped us through our productive decades.  Many have written to reflect on their thinking regarding the value of our BPHS education.  All of us realize that BPHS was different in the fifties.  However, the responders all feel that BPHS was more of a positive experience than negative.

We would like to invite you to send your thoughts on this subject and we will be happy to publish these to our Bulletin Board for all to read.  Just click on the To Post a Message...above and write your comments.  You need not fill out the whole form, only your name.

The following people responded in unison that we turned out alright because of or in spite of where we went to school.

Richard Aguayo, Frances Green, Eleanor Beckley, Jesse Parks, Pat Eddy, Steve Crittenden, Bob Green, Carol Fricke, Arnie Hunt, Sara Evans, DeAnn Fessler, Cynthia Hankins, Bobby Horton, Marilyn Bartlett, Dixie Raff, Nancy Wrobles, Fern King, George Petro, Norma Caylor, Sonia Easley

...Although I don't know all of the BPHS students and their life stories, I think we've done quite well.  [We didn't] all become rocket scientists?

I was a "car-guy" in school, all my life, and still am.  So what did that get me?  I became a truck mechanic, not very exciting but it paid the bills and allowed me to raise a family, go on vacations, and even do a little traveling.  In 1964 I decided that I'd better start planning on my future, so I went to work as a mechanic for the City of L.A.  In my 30 years with the City, I managed to move up in the supervision ranks and retired from the Department of Airports as an Airports Maintenance Superintendent.  I think that was not too bad for a guy with an education from a lousy high school and 2 years at MSAC.

About traveling, Kathy and I have been to Europe, Hong Cong, China, and Australia.  Plus all the traveling in the good old US of A.  Now at the age of 65 we are still at it.  This year we are headed to Dearborn MI.  (Ford's 100 anniversary, I told you I was still a car guy) Calgary, Canada and RV'ing through Alaska.

So there...!

Keep up the good work,

Well, we've arrived at a milestone.  Most of us have or will turn 65 this year.  That may mean retirement, time for more travel, hobbies, family.  I don't remember ever thinking about myself being 65 when I was in High School.  The excitement about marriage, children and pursuing the good life filled my thoughts.  Being older was the job of my grand-parents.  Now that I'm here, I don't remind myself of my grand-parents.  We're different, I think.  We've seen and experienced more than our ancestors.  Our century has been spectacular!  Just ahead of the "baby boomers", we are pushing the way for a new senior citizen.  WE ARE NOT GETTING OLDER, WE ARE GETTING BETTER.

I wish all my classmates and their families a very HAPPY NEW YEAR.  Let's find the rest of our classmates in this 2003.

Your classmate pal and web jester

..Here's wishing you a very pleasant Thanksgiving day.  I do hope you and yours enjoys the day and remember what our forefathers brought forth.  What a great Country we live in... God, the fifties were great years in retrospect.

Victoria and I thoroughly enjoyed the reunion.  It was major hit with everyone that attended and if their was a hiccup it was that we did not have enough time to spend with each other.  I do have a question for most of the lady classmates who attended and that is why did you wait so long to give me all those hugs and kisses?  Damn, I sure could have used a few of those in my senior year.  I probably would not have strayed over to Covina to find a girl if I had known you all were approachable.  Oh well, to bad so sad.

...Regarding our fiftieth reunion and hopefully there will be one, I, as many others will, have a couple of comments.  First and foremost is to keep it as the class of 1956 -no mingling of the classes.  A majority of the classmates I talked to had the same feelings.  The single class made for more intimacy.  It would be fun to have it in the beach areas where we spent so much time.  We could end it with a giant beach party at Corona or Huntington.

In closing, I again want to thank all of you for a job well done and extend from my family to your families the happiest of the Holiday season.

Della and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire reunion. The atmosphere of informality and the friendliness of everyone was very comforting. I have attended other events that were nothing but round after round of one-ups-man-ship. The Hospitality Room , and the barbecue were both wonderful venues for renewing old friendships and maybe starting some new ones. The 50th should be even better since this one was so successful. While we were unable to catch up on the last 46 years during the reunion weekend, we should , through e-mail and the occasional trip through each others part of the world , remedy that oversight. Thanks again for all of your effort in putting on a reunion that everyone enjoyed.

I had a BLAST at the reunion!!!  It was great to see every one that was there and you are right, almost every one was the same. I thought the reunion as a whole went extremely well.  I felt that Norma had to work extra hard Saturday night and maybe did not get to communicate with our classmates very much.

Really, I can't express how wonderful it was to see so many of my classmates at our forty-sixth reunion.  Like many, it has been four decades since I have interacted with my mates.  The reunion was such a fun experience.  I hope that our circle will continue.  It has been important to me to recall some high school experiences that I had tucked away for all these years.  High School  was such an important time in our lives.  We made some big decisions while attending BPHS.  Thank you friends for being a part of our efforts.
